A Dream Come True in the American Dream City

Living in Fort Worth, Arlington was always just a place I traveled through on my way elsewhere, only occasionally stopping for a pink thing and a ride on Judge Roy Scream at Six Flags. Then one day I married a born-and-raised Arlington resident and moved to Arlington. That's where my love affair with Arlington begins.

Being actively involved in my daughter's school life, I started to understand what this city was about from the inside, not just a quick whiz-by on the Interstate. After a brief move back to Fort Worth from divorce, I missed Arlington, purchased a home and happily moved back. This time, I promised to learn more about my city, not be just another complainer. So I Volunteer at The Levitt Pavilion, Arlington Animal Services and serve on the Arlington Unity Council. I also graduated from the Arlington Citizen Police Academy offered by APD, Water Utilities University from the Water Department and the Tarrant County DA Citizen Prosecutor Academy. Always learning about my City!

Cities aren't perfect and as quickly as ours has grown, as well as all of Tarrant County, challenges abound. However, I have met and volunteer with the most compassionate, caring and professional people working hard every day to bring distinction and honor that comes along with being the American Dream City. Moving back to Arlington truly was a dream come true!

When people ask me about my Arlington story, I always SMILE because Arlington didn't just become a place I visited for the past two decades, it became a place that helped shape my purpose.After retiring in 2012 as a Regional Administrator with the Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons, following more than 25 years of dedicated public service, I knew my commitment to serving others wasn't ending, it was evolving. Lotsa History

I moved to Arlington when I was 7 years old. It wasn't even on the map at that time, just a "dot" between Dallas & Ft Worth. The only draw at that time was employment at General Motors. I attended school at CB Berry Elementary and had some of the very best teachers - Key, Workman & others. The following summer Six Flags Over Texas opened and my mom purchased discount tickets at Buddies Supermarket for $5 each that was on Abram St (now the sorrowful area of Amber Hagerman's abduction.)
